DARING TO BE ME

Just like everyone else on this planet, I’m learning what it means to be brave and human. Professionally, I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and completed my master’s degree at Smith College in 1996. I have received continuing education in evidence-based and research-based treatments. I have almost 25 years of experience in both the public and private sectors here on Oʻahu, including psychotherapy, individual consultation, program development and evaluation, group facilitation, and professional training.

I work online and in-person in Hawaiʻi, acknowledging Hawaiʻi as indigenous space whose original people are identified today as Native Hawaiians and that her majesty Queen Liliʻuokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom under duress in protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. The spirit of this land acknowledgment aligns with my perspective in psychotherapy — that everyone arrives within a historical, cultural, and personal context. I wish to affirm and learn about the inherent strengths of a person while listening for how adverse events have affected the body, mind, and spirit.

Initially trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, I ground my work in self-compassion and embodiment and combine somatic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based interventions. I have completed the Center for Mindful Self-Compassionʻs 30-week professional training program in Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (2021), and I am a Daring Way™ Trained Facilitator through with the Brené Brown Education and Research Group (since 2015).
